Panel Shop

Our panel shop builds and tests your panel before it ships.

What Panel Shop does

Panel Shop capabilities

Panel Shop is our own panel shop. We draw, build, and test control panels in house, made to your spec.

Custom and OEM panelsPanels built to your drawing or ours.
Drawings and designClear drawings before we build.
Panel retrofitsWe update and rewire panels you have.
Build to specMade to your standard, tested before it ships.

Independently inspected when it counts. Panels leaving our shop are built and bench-tested against the drawings, and where a panel needs a certification mark we arrange an individual field evaluation by QPS, an accredited inspection body, so what arrives at your site is documented and ready for inspection.

Inside Panel Shop

Platforms. We build and retrofit panels around Allen-Bradley MicroLogix, CompactLogix and ControlLogix, Schneider Modicon, Omron, Phoenix Contact PLCnext and Unitronics hardware.

Built and tested in our shop

Every Bedford panel is drawn, wired and tested in our own Dieppe shop, with an individual QPS field evaluation when a panel needs a certification mark. Nothing leaves the bench untested: point to point against the schematic with the panel de-energized, then a powered I/O checkout against the PLC program when we write it. Wires are ferruled and numbered, devices carry tags that match the drawing, and as-built drawings ship with the panel. From that shop we reach Moncton, Saint John, Halifax, Truro, Amherst and Charlottetown by road, for a new build or a retrofit of the panel you already have.

Straight answers

Common questions

Who builds custom control panels in New Brunswick?Bedford builds them in its own shop in Dieppe NB, and serves plants in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Drawing, wiring, testing and documentation all happen in that one shop, so no part of the build is handed off to a job shop somewhere else.
Can one company build the panel and write the PLC program?Yes. The engineers, panel builders and electricians work in the same building, so the person who writes the code can watch the panel tested against it. Design, panel build, programming, installation and support come from one team, and one call reaches whoever has the drawings.
Do you test a control panel before it ships?Every conductor is point-to-point tested against the schematic before power is applied. Where Bedford also writes the program, an I/O checkout runs on the bench as well. Faults get found in the Dieppe shop instead of during your outage window.
What PLC hardware can go inside the panel?Panels are built around the control hardware your plant already runs, not around one preferred brand. Bedford programs eight PLC platforms in house, so the processor, the enclosure and the code are specified together instead of by a builder who never opens the program.
Do you install the panel or only build it?Both. Red Seal industrial electricians install and land the panels the shop builds, then commission the equipment. Retrofit cutovers are planned around weekends and scheduled shutdown windows, so the line is already down when field wiring moves from the old panel to the new one.
